I’ve been using Matomo for a while, and I still come across features that I didn’t realize could make analysis much easier.
I’m curious what’s one Matomo feature you think is underrated or doesn’t get enough attention?
It could be a report, segment, Tag Manager feature, goal tracking, custom dimensions, heatmaps, scheduled reports, or anything else that has genuinely improved your workflow.
I’d love to hear what features have made the biggest difference for you and why. It might help others discover tools they’re not using yet.
Custom Dimenssions are underrated. They make it much easier to break down traffic by meaningful user or content attributes instead of relying only on standard reports.
Custom dimensions are probably the most underrated for me. They add extra context to user behavior and make segmentation and reporting much more useful.
One Matomo feature that I think deserves more attention is custom dimensions. They can provide much deeper insights by allowing teams to analyze user behavior based on specific business needs rather than relying only on standard reports.
I also find scheduled reports very useful for keeping stakeholders updated without requiring everyone to log in and check analytics manually.
Features like segmentation and heatmaps are powerful as well because they help connect the data with real user behavior and make optimization decisions easier.
Matomo has a lot of capabilities that many users may not explore fully, so discussions like this are a great way to discover new workflows.
For me, custom segments are one of the most useful features that doesn’t seem to get enough attention. Being able to isolate a specific type of visitor or behavior makes the standard reports much more actionable, especially when you want to compare different audiences instead of looking only at overall traffic. Once segments are set up properly, they can save a lot of time when investigating trends or changes in performance.
