I am planning to use Matomo Analytics for my website and would like some guidance before setup.

– Self-hosted vs Cloud Matomo
– Recommended features for beginners
– Any setup tips or common mistakes to avoid
My experiences getting to grips with Matomo for WordPress…extensive tools, everything I could imagine…but limited or no support either on the forum or by emailing the support team…so you are on your own!
You will have to figure everything out for yourself e.g. the correct approach to take for cookies and what is appropriate for your jurisdiction. You can’t just install Matomo and sit back safe in the knowledge you are doing everything correctly.

I made a segment to exclude bot visitors from my stats but I am still getting plenty of visitors from countries I do not expect.
I have a problem connecting to Google to import search terms but am not getting any reply from support. Others are having a similar issues too. You can see here.
