I found that enabling the tracking pixel can generate statistical anomalies in some situation.
We had a weekly email newsletter based on the RSS feed of a wordpress install. When the email was sent, it generated hundreds of calls to the pixel from the emails delivered to subscriber inboxes, without any actual engagement from the subscribers (we used Mailchimp).
RSS crawlers and leeching also generates hits that are not human and just mess up the stats.
My 2 eurocents.
Same here. Thousands of calls with “campaign feed” when sending newsletter with Mailchimp.
Deactivated “Track RSS-Feeds” and “Track links in RSS-Feeds as campaign” in the WP-Plugin but still the count is running.
Did you find a solution?
Ciao Heike, I disabled tracking RSS from the wp-piwik settings.
