We launched a campaign in Mailchimp, and two days later we see that a certain URL, promoted in that campaign, has received 60 clicks.
Three days later we go to Wordpress / Matomo Analytics / Behavior / Pages, and notice the URL in question only has 40 clicks.
We would like to understand why there is a discrepancy between the click data in Mailchimp and the click data in Matomo for the same URL. We would appreciate any guidance or explanation on this difference. Thanks!
Check your server log and see that URL with UTM from Mailchimp how many clicks it has; server log should give you an accurate idea.
Most probl it’s how you’ve setup parsing the data inside Matomo, not sure if you are using Matomo Tag Manager or just bare bone Matomo installation.
The best way to test this is do a separate trial URL only for a specific test campaign, change the UTM to that test campaign, and check it in real time in Mailchimp vs Matomo vs server log. Then compare the stats to see which one is correct. Being a test URL with a test UTM, it should not be affecting your tracking because you’d use it as isolated test (i.e. I’d do it in a clean browser with no caching or history, on a new IP)
