Why are all users new users?

It seems all users are new users. Since are just in development, we know this isn’t true. There are only 3 to 4 machines visiting the site. But all users are reported as new users by Matomo.
Any tips?

Do you track using cookies?
Maybe cookies are deleted (or visite done in incognito mode), then users are still new. Other possibility, how did you configure the visitor recognition time range?

Hey. I’m using pixel tracking. That’s the only thing I’ve configured.
I’d prefer not to set a specific user id. I thought Matomo had some kind of algorithm between visitor IP and browser characteristics to have a good fallback detection.

With pixel tracking, you cannot use cookies for tracking. Then there are some consequences:

I don’t want to have to deal with GDPR. Do you have any tips on how to improve user count in this scenario?


As GRPR is there to prevent user tracking (without consent)… Then, get returning users in such case is very difficult…
