Visitor, Unique Visitor, Return Visitor

There appear to be three different kinds of visitors: visitor, unique visitor, and return visitor. Please consider the following statements and testify to their veracity. If you disagree, please state the reason why.

DEFINITION

  1. visitor - Anyone who lands on a website: bot, surfer, etc. – no matter the number of times or occasion.
  2. unique visitor - A visitor that Matomo has distinguished from all other visitors.
  3. return visitor - A unique visitor that engages in repeat visits.

USE

  1. When counting visits by unique visitors, return visits by the same unique visitor are ignored.
  2. When counting visits by return visitors only visits by those who have already visited the website once are included. The first visit is included among the counted number.
