User Flow Plugin - Homepage appears twice in visitor flow despite identical URL

we’re using Matomo to analyze the visitor flow on our website hamburger-energienetze de. We’ve noticed that the homepage appears in both Interaction 1 and again in Interaction 2, each time with the exact same URL: hamburger-energienetze . de

Example:
Interaction 1: hamburger-energienetze . de
Interaction 2: hamburger-energienetze . de (again)

Almost 50% of users seem to reload or re-enter the homepage right after initially landing on it, which seems unusual. There are no redirects, no visible URL parameters, and no obvious page transitions that would explain this behavior.

Our questions:

  • Why does the same page appear twice in a row in the visitor flow?
  • Could this be caused by reloads, internal links pointing to the homepage, or Matomo-specific tracking behavior?
  • Are there any known cases where Matomo logs the same page twice as separate interactions?

We’ve attached a screenshot of the visitor flow for reference.

A common reason for this is if the page has been refreshed or Matomo is tracking duplicate page views.

I wasn’t able to access the website URL you provided currently to check (the site times-out) but if you test visiting the page, do you see two pages views being tracked for a single view?

If the Matomo tracker exists more than once on your website, that can cause duplicate tracking to occur and cause this behavior in the User Flow report.

Thanks, that was the issue. The tracker was included multiple times, which caused duplicate page views. After correcting that, the User Flow reports are now displaying correctly.
