Transfer data to second instance as long term storage

Hello,

after several years of running Matomo I’m getting into trouble whit storage size, I would like to make some kind of long term storage on home NAS and trim data from production server.

I would say that transferring archive tables is no brainier right? So far I did not purge any data (raw or reports). So I’m thinking if I purge let say raw older than 3 year, will I be able to transfer now raw entries to long term and somehow merge them?

On the other hand does one need to keep raw that old? Would it be the best strategy to merge reports (simply copy only full months) and always replace raw for 2 (or 3) years back?

You could always dump the entire DB and host that at home. There is no real way of merging the old data back if you wanted to as far as I know. You would only want the raw data again if you wanted to create a segment that goes that far back or a custom report.
