Dear all,
we use Matomo for our intranet.
Within the intranet there are profiles of employees in which they can also enter their skills (visible to all employees).
We now want to improve this skills database and determine the current status beforehand:
How often are the skills used?
Unfortunately, I can’t yet find a way (not even in the training material) to find this out.
We also want to find out which keywords do not lead to success in our search on the intranet.
I have also searched in vain for this.
It’s difficult to give a precise answer without knowing more about how your intranet works, and I’m not entirely sure I fully understand your exact goals.
If your “skills” aren’t displayed on a specific page, and you’re not tracking page views, a good alternative might be to use Matomo Tag Manager to create an event whenever a specific piece of information (like a skill) is displayed. However, this may not be exactly what you’re looking for.
Regarding unsuccessful searches, what exactly do you want to track? Is it when no results are returned? What is displayed on the page in that case—maybe something like “No results found”? If so, you could trigger an event when that message appears. To do this, you’d need a way to identify that message on the page, such as using a CSS class or ID.
Tracking usage and search patterns on your intranet can indeed provide valuable insights for improving your skills database. Matomo is a great tool for analytics, but sometimes, it may require some customization to get the desired data.
For tracking skills usage, you might want to explore Matomo’s custom dimensions and metrics feature. This could allow you to create a custom dimension for skills and track how often they’re viewed or searched.
Regarding unsuccessful search keywords, you can try using Matomo’s search analytics feature. This might provide insights into which keywords are being searched but not yielding results.
