Switched servers, now can't log in

I am in the middle of moving some sites from an old server (Debian, PHP 7) to a newer one (Ubuntu, PHP 8.3).

Copying the files and the databases over has worked for the sites themselves, but while I can log in to a self-hosted Matomo on the old site, the same details are not working on the new one (“Wrong Username and password combination.”)

I see that I ‘should’ install a new Matomo on the new server and it ‘should’ pick up the details of the previous info from the database.

Is that essential - is there a reason copying the files and database don’t seen to work?

Doing a new install has worked, in terms of I can log into it etc, but it did not pick up the existing data despite pointing it at the old database with same login details etc, so what I have is effectively a completely fresh installation :frowning:
