Spec. char. keywords "direct entry" -> visitors log

Special character keywords are noted as “direct entry” in the visitors log.
This is because the first page which the visitor sees is not indexed in the trail of the visit.

I’ve tested this from different locations/ip’s.

The following keywords were used:

“plastiktüten bedrucken”

Visitors log showed:
Google Keywords:
Direct Entry
(the first page in the trail was a subpage and nog the index page I landed on during testing)

“tragetaschen direkt bedruckt”

Visitors log showed:
Google Keywords:
“tragetaschen direkt bedruckt”
(the first page in the trail was the index page i landed on during testing)

Did your sub-page have the piwik tracking code as well ? if it had then it should work the same as homepage

Do you put tracking code on every page? May I ask why.

I normally put it in the header so that every page is indexed by Piwik.

Maybe i didnt understand your question well.

Yes but please put in the footer before /body

I’ve dont this. Have done the tests. Still the same result. Keywords with no special characters are still shown correctly.

anyone?

Can you please put a screenshot of the visitor log + a description of the bug ?

I’ve put the description on the screenshot. Thanks.

I just had something similar . Huge drop off in visitors acorrding to google analytics and piwik, but my server logs showed no real change in visitor numbers.

The ones that did register as a visit were all showing as “Direct Entry” and all only visted the same single page.

I updated both the piwik tracking code and the google tracking code and now all seemes well. Live visits are showing search terms again

running Piwik 1.8.2
