Setup setUserID with $_Cookie_ga

Hello -

I’ve setup matomo on a DO CapRover server. It’s all working nicely. I’m interested in using the same user id I have in my site $_cookie_ga Do I use this statement:

_paq.push(['setUserId', 'USER_ID_HERE']);

I tried a couple different ways to place the field name in there but without success. Any guidance is appreciated.
