The ExampleRSSWidget returns a very ugly

I cannot delete the plugin from the dashboard (get a script error) and disabling it from the settings returns a self-recycling dashboard due to a form error.

That looks like a bad PHP build (e.g., linking to library with an incomplete strftime implementation).

Can you try prefixing the strftime() with an ‘at’ symbol, e.g., @strftime? That should suppress the error message.
