Proper way to restore a piwik installation

What is the proper procedure to restore piwik?

I run my site on a VPS and prior to restoring to an earlier snap shot, I took a copy of all the piwik files and the database.

I restored the database, however all the IP information was lost.

Are the visitor logs stored in files? If so which ones do I need to replace?

I just went through this again. I needed to go to an earlier snap-shot, exported the entire database and then reimported. Note the lack of IP information.

Any thoughts?
