Hello,

I have the above error message and don’t find any error in the php and apache log (Debian Server):

 Oops… there was a problem during the request. Maybe the server had a temporary issue, or maybe you requested a report with too much data. Please try again. If this error occurs repeatedly please contact your Matomo administrator for assistance.

It happens what ever the number of days asked and the archive Cron seems to work perfectly…

Do you have any idea ?

Thank you

Hi,

Do you see the message after the website loads for quite some time? Then maybe the request just takes longer than the max_execution_time set up in your PHP config and the request is aborted.

No the pages are loaded normally, quickly and this message appears.
I’ve run the cron archive log manually and all is OK.

You might also want to take a look at the Matomo log for the exact error:
https://matomo.org/faq/troubleshooting/faq_115/

Thank you, is it a permission problem ?
Which permision it should be ?

at the moment it’s 774

It was a problem with a wrong apache user.
Problem solved, thank you @Lukas for pointing me on logs

Hi everyone experts

Sorry if it may not be the right place to post my issue. Since it is related I thought it may be appropriated to re-open the thread.

I have the same issue, and run Matomo in super user.

Since the past days Matomo does not register any new visit, when in fact there are visitors. Even no new plugins updates are indicated, when if fact the updates are released.

When I go to configuration more warn instances are shown on the page:

Oops… there was a problem during the request. Maybe the server had a temporary issue, or maybe you requested a report with too much data. Please try again. If this error occurs repeatedly please contact your Matomo administrator for assistance. See the steps to resolve this issue in the FAQ.

Also, checking button for updates returns an

Error. Please try later again.

I already do applied the suggested steps shown in the FAQ, namely adding the suggested LOG parameters in php.ini to inspect any issues via logviewer plugin in Matomo.
Also inspected generated log file for any errors lines. But none are found.
I have no clue of what it may have caused the issue, so no action could be taken do solve it.

Here the I would be greatly appreciated for any help.

Hi @simitar
Can you check the exact HTTP response received by your browser?
Also you can try to check if there is an Apache log file… ?

Thanks for replying Philippe

There is no Apache log

The error showing in browser:

As you can see the problem has been occurring since 04-11.

Thanks for any further tips.

Hi @simitar
Can your server access the Internet? In many configurations, the access to the Internet form the server is disabled for security reasons (and then automatic updates must be disabled).
Have a look at:

I had this exact same issue earlier this month after the IP2 Location 5.2.6 plugin updated on April 3. The same error appeared under my admin settings, I would get the same error when accessing the Marketplace, and my Apache error log would contain entries that stated “[my host IP] AH01630: client denied by server configuration”. I also received an error when clicking the Check For Update button. Was working fine up until that point. Matomo continued to collect visitor data, but the big pink messagebox remained. Pinging the Matomo build url from a terminal would prompt a response, so it wasn’t like I was being blocked that I could tell.

After fighting with it for a few weeks, decided to flat-out uninstall the IP2 Location plugin. At first there was no difference (same errors, couldn’t access Marketplace, etc.), but overnight something seemed to have cleared up. This morning I was prompted to update another plugin (BotTracker 5.2.11), and the messages about “Oops… there was a problem during the request.” was gone. I can now access the Marketplace, and my Check for Updates button works.

Might try uninstalling a few plugins to see if that helps.

Thanks for replying.

Today I logged into Matomo and surprisingly get no errors on screen, and in addition I received a message to update the database and a plugin.
Updates worked as usual.
Button for checking for matomo updates also worked fine.
It seems internet access is back.
Result: No errors in matomo log

But it not explains the main issue: why visitor’s data is still not being collected.

Again, I give it I try to read data written to file via logviewer plugin by setting parameters below in php.ini:

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Error handling and logging ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[Tracker]
debug = 1

[Tracker]
enable_sql_profiler = 1

[log]
; Possible values are “screen” (default value), “file”, “database” (logs to tables logger_*),
; “errorlog” (logs using the error_log() php function) and “syslog” (logs to the syslog service)
log_writers = file
; Possible values are ERROR, WARN, INFO, DEBUG
log_level = DEBUG
; if configured to log to file, log entries will be written to this file
logger_file_path = tmp/logs/matomo.log
; if configured to log to syslog, this is used as the identifier
logger_syslog_ident = matomo

Inspected tmp directory but no matomo.log file found !?.
Also logviewer screen no data showing !?.
What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance.

Hi to everyone

Updating this post:

Just solved the logviewer issue by editing the right .ini

I have put the above parameters into php.ini file whereas the right one is config.ini.php file.
Now logviewer plugin works as it should, but at the end the info showed was not useful at all.

Issue solved.

Hi again,

Just updating this post: the culprit was an uninstalled plugin in nextcloud after upgrading it. So it couldn’t register no more visitors.
That plugin gives support for Matomo in Nextcloud.
Installed it back and now all works as before.
Thanks for the help.
