Noticeable decline in traffic

We’ve been dedicating some time to investigating a noticeable decline in traffic reported by the Matomo analytics platform for our client.

Specifically, when comparing the period 01.01.2025 – 30.07.2025 with the same period in 2024, we’ve observed a significant drop of approximately 36%.

We’ve developed several hypotheses to account for all potential factors, but none fully explain the decline — especially considering that the overall traffic trends and user behavior appear consistent between the two periods.

It seems to be a drop in volume, not in pattern.

One further note: no changes have been made to the setting of Cookies.

Would you happen to be aware of any updates, configuration changes, or external factors that might have contributed to this sharp decrease?

As external factor, could it be due to AI like ChatGPT? In case you’re technical and have access to server logs, maybe see if you can identify many requests from the “ChatGPT-User” user agent.
