I ran into the very same problem with todays downloaded latest version after a fresh installation of version 1.9.1. Already during installation no images were displayed, except the piwik logo.

Apache error log:

“/var/www/piwik/themes/.htaccess: deny not allowed here, referer: http://…”

So I deleted the .htaccess file and it works

beer, was /var/www/piwik/themes/.htaccess the only htaccess that was causing problems in piwik ?

matt, yes no other changes were necessary for me
