Metrics to Prove Value and Track User Adoption of Matomo

I’m curious if anyone has tracked metrics to prove the value and user adoption of Matomo within their organization.

To give some context, I initially proved the need for a better analytics solution by adding tracking to Looker Studio reports. This showed how users were engaging with the dashboards I created, demonstrating their value. Now, 1.5 years later, I have a full Matomo implementation tracking hundreds of sites and users.

I’m looking for metrics like:

  • Number of users actively logging in.
  • Frequency of logins or engagement with reports.
  • Any other indicators of adoption and value.

Also, has anyone ever tracked Matomo with Matomo? (I know it sounds a bit meta!)

Would love to hear your insights or any creative approaches you’ve used to showcase Matomo’s impact!

I haven’t done this yet, but it’s on my to-do-list:

  • in a Looker Studio add GA4 data
  • blend the GA4 with Matomo data
  • compare side-by-side the Users/Sessions/Add-to-cart/Conversions/Revenue per channel between the two of them

I think it makes most sense when it’s about Ads and Organic traffic tracking; with Ads specifically if you can pin point the accuracy, then agencies will move towards Matomo vs GA4.

Also forgot to mention, add Server Side Tracking for GA4, not client side; that way you compare apples with apples.
