Matomo down after update

Just out of nowhere motomo login page brought “error Path cannot be empty”
After deleting the content of /matomo/tmp/cache i got another error

Unable to create the cache directory matomo/tmp/templates_c/2e

I googled and there are other people with same error, but no answer to them.
hope s.o. knows what broke!!!

Hi @mbmg
Maybe there is a write access issue. Can you give write access to tmp and all subfolders to the process that runs Matomo?

Just ran into this.
In my case it was the disk filling up, so check that as well. A backup script had failed to compress the sql dumps, so it was eating up the disk space.
