Hello everyone,
I’m new to Piwik and this forum and I have a problem with the installation.

I’ve tried 2 versions:

0.4.2:
after copying Piwik to the server I tried to start the installation. I got some kind of notification and I had to create templates_c and cache in the tmp folder with chmod 777. No problem.
Now I’m getting a welcome screen and by clicking on “next” the follwing error appears:

Error: it seems you try to skip a step of the Installation process, or your cookies are disabled, or the Piwik configuration file is already created.
Make sure your cookies are enabled and go back to the first page of the installation .

Well, I enabled cookies in FireFox and IE8…still the same problem…(tried both browsers)

0.4.3:
same notification with the tmp folder BUT instead of the welcome screen following error:

problem writing temporary file ‘/srv/www/xxx/yyy/zzz/analytics/tools/piwik/tmp/templates_c/wrt4a8434dea6f66’

You’ll probably have to chmod the subfolders in tmp as well.

The notification told me to chmod the folders tmp, templates_c and cache…and thats what i did.
So the subfolders have all permissions.

I think some options of the server might be the reason for this problem but I have no idea which one.

The folders are:

tmp/
tmp/latest/
tmp/cache/tracker/
tmp/templates_c/

I am seeing the exact same error message during the install of 0.4.3:

Cookies are enabled and this is a brand new install.

Any ideas on this issue?

After you’ve chmod’d the directories, remove the config/config.ini.php file, and re-browse to your Piwik server URL.

If that doesn’t work, post your your disable_functions setting (php.ini).

I am trying to install Piwik on Godaddy server. All the files were uploaded OK but when I ran the installation screen I am receiving this error:

Does anyone know what’s wrong here? I have PHP 5.1.3, mysql is running. When I originally tried to install I had to enable the PDO extensions in php.ini file. Once I did that I received error above. I am using a generic php.ini file on godaddy root folder.
Any help is appreciated.

This problem is driving me crazy because I have it always in my mind.

My (Root)server is using Plesk, that’s why I couldn’t find the php.ini at once.
I was able to create a phpinfo.php file and this thing is showing me details of the config.
The setting of disable_functions is no value

Shall I post the whole settings or upload them???

It would be great if we could find the failure…although I don’t know how to change settings in the .ini at the moment^^

You’ll have to set the session.save_path if you’re going to use the “files” save handler.

You can use .htaccess (Apache), php.ini (master or local, if allowed) or bootstrap.php in the Piwik folder.

Ask your sysadmins about where to save cookie and php session
data. If using session.save_handler=files, you may have to use a session.save_handler path in your user directory. For other save handlers, eg memcache, consult your hosting provider or sysadmin.

Hi guys!
I’ve automatically updated my piwik to the 0.4.3 version and got this error:

Thanks for your answer. But the variants with .htaccess or php.ini are not suitable for me. Are there any more methods to avoid this problem?

There are no other workarounds.

You can put the .htaccess in your piwik folder instead of the web document root.
