How to delete old data from database

Hi, my self-hosted matomo database is getting too big.

How do I delete for example completely everything from years 2023 and 2024.

Settings → Privacy → Anonymize data → scroll down to “Regularly delete old raw data”

Edit: There are 2 kinds of data:

  • raw data: All data that is being collected
  • reports: this ist what you see in the GUI

You can delete raw data without losing the reports.

I already did that long time ago (maybe a year), it didn’t help, the database is slowly getting bigger and bigger.

I asked AI and it told me to delete tables with the year I want to delete in their names, but AI makes mistakes you know.

We delete raw data older than 90 days, daily and automatically. Works for us. DB still grows due to report data, but slowly enough.

If this isnt enough, you can also delete reports (but than you have nothing left).
