How do you connect Google/Meta ad spend with Matomo conversions?

I do Matomo consulting, and the same thing comes up with every client that runs paid campaigns. Conversions and revenue are in Matomo, spend is in Google Ads and Meta, and the actual ROAS number lives in a spreadsheet that someone updates by hand. Or doesn’t.

Last week I helped someone here in the forum whose campaign reports stayed empty because the mtm parameters were getting dropped from the URL. That got me digging through older threads, and I found this one from 2023 where @Johannes_Boppre was offering to pay for a plugin that imports ad spend. The answer back then was that a plugin like this used to exist, but it died when Google cut API access. As far as I can tell nothing ever replaced it.

So how do you handle this today? Do you get cost data into Matomo somehow, or do you export conversions to the ad platforms and trust their numbers? Looker Studio with the official connector and a second source for spend? Plain spreadsheets?

Full disclosure: I started building a tool for exactly this 2 years ago for my clients, so part of this thread is me checking whether the problem is real beyond my experience and to find out how other users are dealing with it at the moment.
