Yes you can. I use Matomo Tag Manager for that
On your website you need to push the userid to the data layer
In Matomo Tag Manager create a variable type data layer
Give it a name
Enter Data Layer Variable Name
Go to matomo configuration default variable
Click the icon next to User ID and choose the data layer variable you just created
