I have only recently joined Matomo and have spent the last few weeks getting to know the platform. Although the training and documentation have been really useful, I’ve encountered some difficulties with custom dimensions and efficiently tracking user behaviour.
To get additional insight into user behaviour on our website, I’m specifically attempting to set up custom dimensions to track specific user properties (e.g., logged-in status, user roles, etc.). Even though I’ve followed the configuration instructions, the data isn’t appearing in the reports as it should.
Configuration Information:
- Utilising Matomo 4.x on-premises.
- User role, membership status, and location all have their own custom dimensions.
- Tracking user journeys and segmenting data based on these qualities is the aim.
Problems:
- Although they don’t show up in the reports, the custom dimensions appear to be set up successfully.
- Is there something else I need to do to make sure that custom dimensions are tracked correctly?
- Which methods work best for monitoring user behaviour depending on characteristics such as role or whether or not the user is logged in?
Enquiries:
- Has anyone else seen problems similar to theirs where reports fail to include custom dimensions? If so, describe how you handled it.
- Does this kind of tracking require any special configurations or changes to the tracking code?
