I have just updated matomo to 3.9.0 and now get a 500 internal server error. It was working before, what broke and how do I fix it?
Without knowing what the error is, I can’t help.
So please look in the PHP error log.

That depends on how you set up your webserver and PHP. (or how the person/company that set it up allows you to look into the error log)
It is hosted on Heart Internet if that is any help, I have no idea how the webserver and PHP are set up
Then I’d recommend you to contact them or look into their docs on how to find information about PHP errors.
