I see that if Javascript is not available, a ‘noscript’ the tracking code provided by Piwik refers to a script which produces a small image. What is the difference between the information gathered via the Javascript and what can be gathered by the image? Am I going to lose any information if I leave only the tracking image on my pages?
You will definetely loose data if you only show the 1x1 image. JavaScript is required to enable link tracking, download tracking, time tracking, etc.
Also, it has been said that the noscript part of the traker isn’t working properly, yet.
