Difference between Export and Matomo website report

I’m working with Matomo On-Premise.

In the Behavior > Pages report, I can see the list of URLs with the number of Pageviews and Unique Pageviews per page. At the bottom, there is a “Totals” row that shows overall figures, including total Pageviews and total Unique Pageviews. I am working witth a segment with a limited number of pages, there are only 44 pages)

In parallel, I exported the Pages report to Excel. The figures per page in the export match exactly what I see in the interface. So the breakdown by page (Pageviews and Unique Pageviews) is perfectly consistent between the interface and the Excel export.

However, when I compare the totals, I get different numbers.

In the interface (Totals row):

261 Unique Pageviews

406 Pageviews

In the Excel export (sum of all rows):

158 Unique Pageviews

244 Pageviews

How can such a discrepancy between the interface totals and the summed export data be explained?
Thanks for your help !

I’ve found my answer

Could you share your findings, just in case another user has a similar issue. Unless it was self-induced of course

Sure! It’s a good idea.

I was very surprised by the answer, to be honest. I was in the Pages report and used a filter to see the average time on page for a subset of pages. I expected the filter to also apply to the total row at the end of the table, but it didn’t. The total was calculated using all pages, without taking the filter into account.
So now I know that if I want the total, I have to export the data and calculate it manually.

Thank you for sharing your answer @souad.lepoivre. We really appreciate it.
