We are using Matomo on-premises. We routinely back up our database and note that the DBIP-City database is quite large. We have never explicityly loaded or installed this database.
We are wondering if we could eliminate that from our routine backups, and just back it up once in a while, or whether it is automatically provided as part of Matomo updates.
Thanks for the info. I was not aware that we had set up the geolocation database, so perhaps it was a default of the installation.
We don’t have a concern with the function per se. It has come up when looking at a significant size increase to our backups. Our sysadmins says that the DBIP file is about 100MB. From the information on the Matomo Geolocation page, there appears to be no reason to include this file in daily backups, especially since it is updated automatically, and is also available on demand.
