Custom Variables: Unlimited values?

I’m in the midst of testing this on a test environment but I thought I’d ask the forums:

The documentation states that 5 custom variables are permitted for each scope (“page” or “visit”)

Does this mean that the amount of possible values per custom variable are unlimited?

e.g., I have a custom variable called Category that records the category of the page; There are 20+ categories. In my reports, I want to see which ones are the most popular.

Is this permitted? Just checking before I make any mistakes. Thanks in advance.

Yes of course, amount of possible names AND values are unlimited… just only 5 + 5 at a time :wink:

however note that at archiving they will be truncated at 500 or 1000 etc. see: How to - Analytics Platform - Matomo
