Constant error "MySQL server has gone away "

I am getting the error “SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 2006 MySQL server has gone away” with the latest Piwik version, constantly, when browsing on the web interface. MySQL Server is up and running, I also checked all the packet sizes, the timeout values etc. and restarted the server multiple times, no luck.

Any other idea? Many thanks in advance!
