I could not get clear picture of piwik. Piwik is similar to google analytics or is it an extension that shows the google analytics data on its dashboard?
Would one need to put piwik code separately on pages to get the analytics?

Piwik is an alternative to Google Analytics. You will need to download the script and install it on your own server. Once installed you will be given tracking code which you place on your website. This tracking code works similar to Google Analytics where it’ll start tracking your visitors actions.
