hi
when defining Redirects in AB Testing, there is the option “Forward campaign URL paramaters”. Is there no option to forward all parameters, not only UTM?
thanks
hi Matomo Team
Could you please answer this question?
Or, can you tell in general what is your approach to support users? It seems to me that the general approach is “no support / no answer” with some exceptions. Is this correct? Since we have several questions, mostly for premium modules, but your support is more or less missing, and as I can see also in the forum many questions are just open, this is an important information we need, before deciding to use Matomo in the future.
Hi @regardtrack
As this concerns Premium plugin, you can also ask directly by email to the support team.
hi @heurteph-ei
thanks for your feedback. In theory yes, in reality we also dont get answers by mail. Furthermore I think it could be beneficial for the community to see answers here, especially because I see many questions not answered here. I think it should be vital for Matomo to answer as many questions as possible, it will reduce future questions and increase happiness
Hi @regardtrack ,
AB test can forward only campaign parameters at the moment, it is not possible to forward all the parameters.
@karthik thanks, do you have any plans to improve that? All projects I manage use URL parameters without exception. Now we had to implement a custom solution which means everytime modifying your JS Code.
Hi @regardtrack ,
Can you please explain how this would be helpful and what issue it would solve for you, so that I can create a feature request and give your scenario as a use case.
Hi @regardtrack Thanks; done.
(Add further thoughts here and we will append them to the internal feature request. Free core feature requests are public at Githhub, Proprietary code, like premium features, has an internal feature request list…)
@karthik @MisterGenest thanks for looking at it.
First of all: I am sure this is quite easy to implement, we implemented the fix on our side in 2 hours, however as written, it means I must modify each time your JS Code, and this is not the goal of using an AB Testing module
I describe here shortly the problem:
We call sometimes our pages with more parameters than just UTM paramters. Example: mydomain.com/mypage?param1=23&parem2=444
When we do an AB Test and redirect to the variant page, then naturally the variant page must have these parameters too, otherwise our website does not work and the AB Test is useless.
I guess this was also the motivation when you introdcued the “UTM Parameter Forwarding”
in other words: In AB Testing each variant must receive same parameters as the original page
Hello @regardtrack , Thanks - I appended that further info to the ticket. I saw the developers took a look at the ticket. They did not yet triage it. I will check back on it a month from now to see if it was scheduled. (There are many things ahead of it in the queue, so we have to wait and see how it will be prioritized.)
I feel the pain on having to modify the JS code each time.
(I understand your workaround is written in JS. If a PHP solution is written ever, by you or others, it can be sequestered, and conveniently persisted, as your own plugin. That is for PHP backend code though. Again, I understand you made a Javascript fix.)
