It is unclear to me if Tag manager is a substitute for the standard JS integration of a website with matomo. In other words, If I have a website that I have already added js code to all pages from a profile I have setup in matomo, can I ALSO use tag manager. Can I add into the website pages the Tag Manager container code in addition to the normal matomo JS code and it will work? If so, are there any pitfalls or gotchas?

If you use both (with both “bootstrap” code), you’ll get double tracking…
But, it is possible to have an hybrid mode (sometime, some things are very difficult with MTM only). In such case, the code to use (Matomo “bootstrap”) is the one from MTM. Once started, the _paq can be used.
