SDK Compatibility with older Piwik

We currently use older Piwik 2.17.1. We would like to use current SDK (iOS/Android). I can not find SDK backward compatibility. Is there any problem to use current SDK before server upgrade? Is there available feature list of relevant SDK/Piwik versions?

I asked the developers.

But is there a really important reason to stay with Piwik 2? I’d really recommend you to upgrade as no bugs will get fixed for 2.x.

I got an answer:

All tracking SDKs should work the same between Piwik 2 and Piwik 3 as they are only using the tracking API to send data to the Piwik instance and that shouldn’t have changed.
