Hi…
I know the real names of many of my visitors. Is there a way, instead of seeing an ip address that I can enter the name of the visitor once and it will appear each time the visitor comes onto our site.
Thanks for your help…

This is something I was looking for too.
It would also be great if then we could filter or search for all activities based on a specific name (or even based on IP-addresses) within a range of dates to be defined by the user of the piwik installation.
I strongly hope this will be added to piwik.
You can do so with Custom Variables to set the name of the visitor. See Custom Variables Analytics - Analytics Platform - Matomo
Then, you can use Segmentation to segment only for this custom variable, to get any report segmented to a specific user. See Segmentation - Compare segments of visitors - Analytics Platform - Matomo
Soon this will be available in the UI: Segmentation: implement UI for adding/editing segments, and switching segments · Issue #2135 · matomo-org/matomo · GitHub
Thanks Matt…
I’m not very “javascript knowledgeable.” Are there any specific instructions on how to do this that I can read? Also, any idea when it will be part of the UI?

What I’d like to see is another type for “scope”. That would be “person”, or unique visitor.
Happy New Year! If you are still using Piwik and interested in the awesome new feature of “Creating a Custom Segment in Piwik and apply to reports in Real time!” we need YOUR help, with a little or big donation at: http://crowdfunding.piwik.org/custom-segments-editor/
This will allow to dynamically add or edit, a new set of rules for example “Show all visitors from USA and using Firefox and using Google”. This will be done via a simple to use interface. See screenshots and more info here: http://crowdfunding.piwik.org/custom-segments-editor/
We are crowd funding the future of Piwik and this feature in particular. With your help we can do it.
Thanks
Matthieu
