Please help me! I have installed piwik on my xampp server and it crashed Apache both times. I successfully got through the setup, but when I clicked Go To Piwik at the end, a message popped up on my server saying “Apache has a problem and needs to close”. Then there was another error that said that the error could not be “read”. When I restarted and reloaded the webpage, it would just keep loading and loading until apache permanently broke and I had to reinstall two times, which was annoying.
what error is in your error.log ? without error it’s impossible for us to help
what is an “error.log”? Is it a file?
It’s an Apache log file.
How do I find it?
I don’t know if this helps, but I searched my computer and found a txt file named “error” somewhere in the place I installed apache.
The only line with the word “piwik” in it was:
[Sat Mar 28 21:20:22 2009] [error] [client 66.249.70.146] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/piwik
I tried going to the piwik directory from a browser, and it didn’t change anything in the file. I am not sure at all that this is the right one, though.
Hello?
I had that problem as well and found the solution here:

Hopefully, Apache Friends will fix it the right way in the next version of XAMPP.
[size=18pt]An update to XAMPP 1.7.1 will solve the issue![/size]
Just run the update from http://www.apachefriends.org/download.php and piwik is running fine now
Cheers
