How to update plugins?

On the plugins page, the version info is next to each plugin’s name.
But how to check if a plugin is up to date or has (security?)-updates?
The only way i see now is manual check, by visiting the plugin’s homepage.
Or ist this happening already automatically?

Ok, once a plugin HAS updates, that shows up on top of the plugins page:

Maybe there should be a button “check for plugin updates”, so it would be consistent with core?
