I found a file in the root directory of Piwik named Core.18139. It is 37 MB in size. What is this file and can I delete it?

You can delete it. It’s a crash dump (probably from php). 18139 is likely the process id.

You might want to see if you can update php on your system.

I deleted the huge file. Just to let you know that I too had an error on auto upgrade from 0.4.4 to 0.4.5. I got an error to the effect, I think, that the uploaded file could not be unzipped. I successfully did a manual update.
