Bugs in 1.7?

Hi,

1/ Previously in version 1.6 on the dashboard in the ‘Visits Overview’ area, and the ‘Frequency Overview’ area, the stats were clickable, so that for example I could click on the ‘XX% of Visitors have bounced’ and see the bounce rates for the last two weeks without having to leave the dashboard.

That is no longer the case. On mine none of them in those two areas are clickable any more.

I assume this is a bug, because it is definitely a downgrade in terms of easily extracting info from the stats.

2/ Am suddenly getting a lot of ‘Keyword not defined’ in the ‘list of keywords’ in the dashboard.

This seems to be considerably higher AFTER the upgrade then before, so I wonder if the keywords are being tracked correctly after the upgrade?

Stuart

“Keyword not defined” means the referring search engine stripped the keyword out.

I’m on the train, so will have to verify your other bug report later.

Ok Cool.

With the ‘Keyword not Defined’ I know that it is to do with the search engine at source (Really only Google at the moment, because it is a block when people are logged into their Gmail accounts)

But I am getting considerably more since the upgrade then before, so I do wonder whether javascript or something else is being tracked slightly differently?

Yesterday for example on 1 site:

368 visits - Keyword not defined - 55 (Version 1.7)

Same day one week ago.

329 visits - No keyword not defined

Is this simply that the number of these is now being shown in the ‘List of Keywords’ and it wasn’t before?

I wonder if a good workaround / feature suggestion might be to add a different dropdown when you click on ‘Keyword not defined’ in ‘List of keywords’ as compared to the other keywords.

With the other keywords it shows the search engine breakdown.

ie

22 Google
15 Bing etc

That is pointless with ‘Keyword not defined’ because currently this blocking of the keyword term is only from Google, so it tells you nothing.

If 'Keyword not defined ’ is 22 for example, then clicking on the expansion box will simply show, “Google - 22”, which doesn’t add to the sum of information.

Instead of that why not show links to the pages that the ‘Keyword Not Defined’ ended up going to, because that can be tracked, and would at least give the webmaster a good idea about which keywords are not being tracked, simply by knowing which pages are being visited.

e.g ‘Keyword Not Defined’ - 22

Then a click on it to expand…

swan-page.html - 12
goose-page.html - 10

Now, even though I don’t know the keywords, I do at least have a better idea of what they might have been, simply by knowing the page.

Correct, this was previously attributed to external websites.

There is a ticket in trac to better differentiate this. Drilling down to the entry page is a good idea, but would add too much complexity to the existing widget. I suggest you wait for the segmentation UI.

Just updated to 1.71.

This still seems to be a problem.

Is it pencilled in for a fix?

Hello,

I am also seeing a lot more ‘keyword not defined’ than with 1.6. At least 4-5x as many. Could it be that Piwik was not tracking it correctly before, and now is? Or is there a bug in the 1.7 that’s tracking keywords as not defined when it shouldn’t be?

The “Frequency overview” widget does not contain a graph. Before, when you clicked on one of these sparklines, would it update a graph in another widget?
The “Overview with graph” does load the graph when clicked on the sparklines below.

Maybe we should aadd a new widget that has Graphs + Sparklines such as “Frequency overview with graph”?

Hey Matt,

The problem comes as a result of the new layout I think.

I have it setup so that I had the ‘Last Visits Graph’ widgets and the ‘Visits Overview’ widgets together, because I have the wide on the left and then two narrow columns on the right layout.

If you do that then the ‘Last Visits Graph’ stretches right over the width of the wider left hand column.

But if you only load the ‘Overview with Graph’ then the graph at the top is severely truncated, and does not stretch over to fill the space like the ‘Last Visits Graph’ does.

One suggestion and One Bug Report:

1/ Suggestion: Add something in the code so that if someone has both the ‘Last Visits Graph’ and the ‘Visits Overview’ graph displayed, that clicking on any of the sections in ‘Visits Overview’ will also change the display on the ‘Last Visits Graph’ (in the same way that ‘Overview with Graph’ does)

This is especialy more relevant now with the new column layouts that are available, because you may for example want to display one in the left hand column, and one in the middle or vice versa, but still want to see the details change if you click on them.

At the moment you are forced to have it in one column and use the ‘Overview with Graph’ (which I hadn’t realised still worked, so thanks for pointing that out!)

2/ Bug: The way that ‘Overview with Graph’ currently works is not right, because the graph at the top does not stretch out in the way that ‘Last Visits Graph’ does to fit a wider left column.

So this needs to be made to stretch to fit whatever column it is in.

Thanks for your good work!

Regards,

Stuart
